Spring Vocation Retreat Held in San Diego

Discerners pose for a picture after morning Mass in the Monastery Chapel

The 2019 spring vocation discernment retreat was held at St. Augustine Monastery, San Diego this past weekend. The weekend featured the visit of two discerners, one of whom has previously attended a retreat with us, and another who is just starting to discern a vocation in general.

The weekend was organized by friars in formation at the Monastery, with Br. Mauricio Morales, OSA, Br. Arturo Renteria, OSA, Br. Adnan Ghani, OSA, and pre-novice Ramon Riesgo taking the lead and setting the schedule for the weekend. They were joined by Associate Vocation Director Fr. Mark Menegatti, OSA, who came down from Los Angeles to offer support and encouragement over the weekend.

The vocation weekend features a series of talks on religious life and includes visits to local Augustinian ministries. The discerners were given a tour of St. Augustine High School and learned about teaching as an apostolate in the province, as well as St. Patrick's Parish to learn about parish ministry.

Fr. Gary Sanders, OSA and Fr. Harry Neely, OSA also gave talks to the retreatants which were well recieved and help set the spirit of the weekend.

If you are interested in attending a future vocation retreat or beginning a process of inquiry to discern Augustinian life, contact Fr. Tom Whelan, OSA.
