After a counting of ballots from the province membership on the night of November 13th, 2018 Fr. Gary Sanders, OSA was found to have been elected as the next Prior Provincial of the Province of California for 2019-2022 term. Fr. Gary will take office on January 7th, 2019, succeeding Fr. Kevin Mullins, OSA who will continue to serve as Prior Provincial until then. This will be Fr. Gary's third four-year term as Prior Provincial. In a message to the brothers after his election, Fr. On Saturday, Nov 24, 2018, the friars of the Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish Community assisted the parish St. Vincent de Paul monthly homeless lunch. The parish is known for a very active St. Vincent de Paul Society and the monthly lunch that is served to the area homeless population. Fr. Alvin Paligutan, OSA, associate pastor at OMGC, shared the impact that the program has across the archdiocese, "OMGC is one of 140 or so parishes here in the Archdiocese of L.A. with a SVDP chapter, serving around 200,000 people per year through the Society of St. Vincent De Paul." Hogar Infantil La Gloria is the sponsored ministry of the Province of St. Augustine in California, this means that each of our parishes and schools is asked to creatively support the orphanage in new ways each year. Recently, students from St. Augustine High School and its' sister school of Our Lady of Peace came together to help put together the annual fundraiser mailing for the orphanage. Over 1,000 cards were prepared. The mailing had many components to it, including using glue sticks to paste a photo onto a letter, the insertion of additional materials, stuffing the envelopes themselves, pasting address labels, and of course- stamping!
