Sr. Jana Professes First Vows

On Saturday, May 11th, Sr. Jana Akan, OSA of the Sisters of St. Rita made her First Profession of Vows.

Sr. Jana has a special connection to our California Province, as she was a longtime member of Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish in Los Angeles, California. There she led the Augustinian Seculars and fully participated in the life of the parish. Many friars flew out to support Sr. Jana, and Sr. Jana asked our provincial Fr. Gary Sanders, OSA to celebrate the Mass.

In entering into Augustinian spirituality as a secular, she began to discern a vocation to religious life. The Sisters of St. Rita, a congregation of sisters within the Order of St. Augustine, offered her the opportunity to pursue religious life in an Augustinian setting. The sisters in Racine run a retirement home for lower and middle class Seniors, in Racine, WI an important ministry in a world of rising healthcare costs.
